Romance Novels in Review: Playaz

Hey everyone welcome to 2012 and some new romance novels, such as the upcoming Playaz featuring an Asian guy and black girl!  That’s pretty usual, right?  I thought so too so when I found out I just had to get my hands on a copy!  But like I said it’s only an upcoming title meaning it ain’t out yet but then I decided to simply contact the author and go from there.

Well, guess what, I got an advance copy on the condition that I don’t reveal too many details and not spoil the story for those who haven’t read it yet.  But I certainly can tell you that this is one of the best romance novels I’ve ever read so far and I think I’ve gone through quite a few now!  What I liked was that it was “literary” but also playful at the same time, this book was like a nice chill movie you see with your peeps without being totally stupid (not that Playaz is stupid at all despite the ghetto-sounding title).  It’s hard to explain without going into the details I’d promise not to but let me just say that I don’t think anyone could put down the book once they pick it up if they’re interested in a good story of the fun and deep but not too deep variety!

Now if you don’t know what I mean that’s okay since I know this little preview is vague, even for a preview, but another thing I can say to whet your appetite and make it make sense why I’m so excited is that Playaz is based on a plot given by another writer in a how-to write book of his (this writer’s), which is freely downloadable.  That’s pretty cool in my book to take what is basically a writing exercise and make a whole book out of it!

And let’s get to the story itself at last: it involves a sista in high school who’s good at videogames and has a championship contest coming up just when her life is falling apart.  Then comes in this Asian guy into the picture…and well like I said I won’t reveal any more even though the twists and turns are based on a plot that’s already been outlined but part of the joy is finding out where the author does things different, especially when it comes to the interracial sex scenes!!!
